Probationer arrested for several felony crimes

33-19On Thursday, November 15, 2012, at approximately 11:14 AM, Palm Springs Police Department patrol officers located a stolen vehicle driving southbound in the 800 block of North Palm Canyon Drive. Officers initiated a traffic stop and the driver, later identified as Suspect-Amaro Yave Gutierrez, pulled over in the 400 block of North Palm Canyon. As officers contacted Gutierrez, he began driving away and a brief, slow speed pursuit ensued for two blocks. Gutierrez stopped the vehicle in the 200 block of North Belardo Road and a felony traffic stop was conducted. Gutierrez was arrested without further incident. He was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine smoking pipe. Gutierrez, was out of custody on bail for a felony possession of stolen property case and on active formal probation for a felony theft conviction at the time of this incident. The recovered vehicle, a white 1990 Toyota Camry, was stolen in Cathedral City on November 14, 2012. Gutierrez was later transported to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, CA.
