On Sunday, November 11, 2012, at approximately 9:34 PM, the Palm Springs Police Department received a report of a subject hiding and looking into a property in the 200 block of Vereda Norte. Officers arrived at the location and located a subject ( later identified as Suspect- Michael Williams) matching the description, concealing himself by bushes near a driveway to a residence. The officers contacted Williams and attempted to detain him. Williams refused to obey the officer's commands to remove his hands from his pockets and additional commands in an effort to safely detain him. Williams turned away from the officers and began to run away from the officers. The officers caught up to Williams a short distance away and he resisted their efforts to detain him. The officers were able to detain Williams after a violent struggle on the ground. Williams was found to be carrying a concealed dirk/dagger in his clothing after he was detained. PSPD was unable to determine if Williams had attempted to enter the residence. Williams was arrested without further incident and was later transported to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, CA.
One of the officers sustained a broken hand during the physical altercation and the other officer sustained injuries to his hand and knee.
Williams was on active summary probation for prowling stemming from an arrest by the Palm Springs Police Department on May 14, 2012. The victim in that case identified Williams and reported that he had unlawfully entered her home in the 600 block of West Via Olivera while she was inside. He was located and arrested in the area of the residence.
